Yes this is a serious question.. it's on my homework and i dont know the answer.

There is NO verifiable answer to this question, though it has been pondered for centuries, and many theories abound.

MY personal theory is that technically the egg came first, because a bird would have had to lay an egg that contained a genetic mutation, producing a genetically altered bird that bred, carrying that gene into future generations that further mutated, so that each time an egg was laid in the next generation, the mutation was carried forward into the genus of chicken we have today. So I say the egg.
