What can I do for baby duck eggs2007-11-24 17:17:00

We have been watching these baby duck eggs for a week now at my work, the mom has always been there. Well today we saw the mom as road kill on the street. very sad. What can we do for these eggs? one is crushed.. and one was outside the nest, and one is missing. we rolled the one back in using bread so we would touch it. Can we call someone to pick them up and care for them, or can we do something?

Answers:

The egg will only be saved if you place it in an incubator ASAP. Even then, they may have been outside the nest for too long. Incubators can be purchased at local farm supply stores.

If you know someone who owns chickens or ducks and they currently have birds sitting a nest, you might try an "egg transplant" into the surrogate mother's nest. Might work.

You would have to have an egg incubator to try to raise it.

Is there a local wildlife rescue center nearby? If so, call them, as they will have an incubator for the eggs.

If no wildlife rescue, maybe call a nearby farm and feed supply store and see if they have an incubator you can rent.

If not, call your local vet... in fact, maybe call them first for better advice than I can give... and see if they can either incubate the eggs or tell you haw to make a "makeshift" incubator... maybe a towel-nest with a heat lamp nearby.
