Hi

Yes yes yes.. Hawks, all kids,..like Eagles will and do Take small dogs, rabbits and puppies..

You are not going to be able to do much about the hawk. they are protected and you can not legally kill them.

Im wondering if you have a puppy that will grow or remain small..

If it is going to be a medium sized dog or larger the Hawk will leave it be once its big enough . but a small breed is still at risk..

I would suggest a covered kennel run for your dog until then. or you stay out with it while it is out.

If the hawk swoops even with you there. raise you arms and wave make yourself big and loud.

They are gutsy but not stupid. he will leave..

I have heard scarecrows. ultrasonics, fake owls you name it. ideas to get rid of hawks.. but never heard anything that worked.

It is possible if you live near a field that the hawk is mousing not going after your dog.. but you are the best judge of this. if you think he is looking at your dog for dinner I would take no chances.

Keep him on a line, leash so hawk cant leave with him,, kennel him with a lid or stay within 2-3 feet of him at all times when outside.

Keep an eye to the sky.. they are quiet and quick..

And know

It's not personal. the Hawk is just doing what he does..hunts

He will either move on or lose interest in your pup sooner or later.

Good Luck..

Your dog is probably too heavy for a hawk to seize. Sometimes, young hawks will "buzz" your pet, but will be scared away by their bark. Normal, healthy hawks will eat only what they know as prey: insects, rodents, and other small birds. Not dogs!
That's pretty serious if you have a small puppy. I suggest keeping it inside until it's big enough to not be hawked.
I respect the first answer because I don't know a lot about hawks, but I'd still be concerned that the hawk might TRY to capture your pup and cause lacerations. But hawks do hunt for small mammals so your pup certainly needs your protection. It would be a horrible thing to find out we're wrong about what a hawk can capture.
