What can be done about a Swalking Bird2007-11-24 17:25:10

This bird Swalks contantly for hours on end. It doesnt sound like a happy churp, it sounds like it is very unhappy.

Answers:

The more attention you give a bird the less it will squawk. A bird squawks because of lack of attention. or when happy.

Budgies need at least one hour of attention a day.

African greys and cockatoos at least 2-3 hours.

Macaws (red, blue) need at least 5 hours so before you buy, make sure you have the time to spend with them.

Paying attention to a bird does not mean just talking to the bird. It also means watching television together,take his cage into the same room you are in.

Try a radio on low.

Try giving your bird different toy's to play with if your not able to be with him all the time

Try covering them up with a blanket

Check food,water.

Watch out for plucking, as it means there is a problem and it may be because of a lack of attention. If the bird is losing feathers, and you cannot find the cause, see a vet. If after trying all listed,and you have checked everything ,a visit to a vet may be needed to check your birds health.

some birds just like to squawk, try to give him some attention and if that dont work, you can cover his cage for awhile with a thin sheet some times that works good luck

some birds are stolen from the nest and become traumatised this and illegal smuggling could have this affect.
