What can be wrong with my finch2007-11-24 17:16:59

I just discovered that one of my finches has lost some of her feathers and some pink flesh is visible. I isolated her in another cage away from the other birds. I dont know what could have caused this.

this can be do to molting a bird goes through the molting process once or twice a year to increase the bueaty of it's plumuge and hopes of attracting a mate.

the second posseibilty of this problem is teritoral if you have too many finches in one cage they will fight and can proceed to plucking of feathers out of angers.

Most likely she was being plucked by another bird.

If she is in there with other finches, it was probably done by a male, but it could have possibly been a female. Also, if a finch is being plucked then others are likely to gang up on her too.

If possible, locate the culprit and separate him from the others for a little while. Then try reintroducing him back in and watch him carefully.

If they are kept with other species of birds, it may possibly be another bird hurting her, especially if you happen to keep her with hookbills, quails, or ringneck doves.
