What can i feed my ducklings2007-11-24 17:17:01

i can't get pelets and stuff like taht to feed ducklings so i have been feeding them lettuce, tomato, carrots and spinich, but i think they need more of a variety. What else can they eat?

You can feed them vegetables of that sort, and some kinds of fruits possibly (apples...). They should also eat bread, crackers, etc for the sugars and carbs they need...but don't feed them this in excess.

They'll also eat a little bit of grass if you don't have anything else to feed them, but it's not typical of them to have this as a main diet. I'd say find a way to get cracked corn and grain and whatnot if at all possible..that's usually their favorite.

If it comes down to the very worst, you could get corn on the cob, strip the corn kernels off and feed those to the ducklings as well if they're mashed slightly.

Some stores (such as Wal-Mart) also offer baby bird mixes...but this stuff isn't something that birds love, per say...

Go out in the yard and catch some crickets or grasshoppers. They LOVE them and it will add some 'meat' to their diet.

Feed them worms,crickets,grasshoppers, just any kind of bug. Also, Bread will work. Feed them uncooked fish like minnows and stuff. You can find minnows at walmart or any other place that sells fishing tackle.

Woah! You cannot feed ducklings human food! I live on a farm hathcery and we raise turkeys, peafowl, chickens, and ducks, so I know a lot about htis stuff. If you cant buy the proper food for them, you should not have ducklings. You obviously don't know a lot about them. If getting rid of them and releasing them isnt an option for you, order some duck food online to be shipped to where you live. Murray Mcmurray hatchery is a good source.

Depending on their size, you must be very careful on what you feed them. My friend rescued a duckling, she tryed to feed it a tiny piece of bread, but it choked on it and died = (

Do some research, even if you have to take a bit of a drive to get to a farmers market, try to find some proper starter feed or somthing along those lines.

**Please Note: I have never owned a duck, i am currently looking into one so i personally dont know from experience (except that incident with my friend)
