What color type is my budgie2007-11-24 17:25:40

Ok, the budgie I have was rescued from outside and the owner was never found. I am trying to find the genetic mutation color. There is no band on the leg. The bird is solid yellow with no black barring on the head or wings. There is green on the back and the eyes are black. I cannot tell what color the seer is. It looks like a white smooth color to me. Feathers are all adult looking.

I am trying to find the color so I can determine the sex and age. I suspect it is a yellow recessive pied although I don't see any "patches" of color. The green on the back is like a gentle blush of color rather than a patch.

Hmmmmm, any ideas?

A Picture would really help here there are a few mutations that can match this. The first like you said a recessive pied. Dilute kinda matches if the whole body is washed out.

But the ones I'm really leaning to are DEC and DF spangle. But I would need to know if the eye has an iris ring. Pity the cere sounds like you have a girl if it was a blue or bright pink it would have helped to work out the mutation more.

DEC and Double Factor (DF) spangles are all yellow or all white budgies with black eyes rather than the red of Ino budgies. The DEC ( short for Dark Eyed Clear) is a offspring of a recessive pied and a dominant pied pair. DF Spangle is a bird with two spangle genes. Spangles look as if their wing patterns are reversed from the normal.

Both of these birds can get a faint suffusion of colour around the rump area. To tell if you have a DEC or DF Spangle you need to look at the eye for a white ring called an iris ring showing, even a faint one that looks brownish. If the bird does have one it's a DF spangle.
