What do I do with bird nest/eggs in my hanging baskets We are expecting a storm
We are expecting the high winds from a coastal storm brewing, and I have a nest w/ 2 bird eggs on my porch hanging plants. The parents are close by, but will they abandon the nest if the storm blows the baskets down? Or should I place the baskets on the floor til the storm passes? We get the nests every year in our hanging plants, and we always keep an eye on them, but we haven't had the risk of them blowing down til now.
Answers:My opinion is that I would take them down. If the storm blow them, the eggs will break anyway. Maybe put them in a large WEIGHTED box on the porch. The parents will find it, if they aren't hiding from the storm also. Then put it right back as soon as it is safe.
Put the baskets on the ground and make sure they are out of the wind
nothing, nature will just have to take its course if you touch the eggs or move them the birds wont be back! I one time had birds lay eggs in my baskets too and one day I went to check on them the eggs were gone.. Weird huh?
take the plants down from hanging but leave them on the ground below where they were hanging...it would be better to have new baby birds than a good looking plant but dead birds.
the birds will be fine in the weather...but i doubt your plant will look the same
They will most likley abandon the eggs if you move the basket, if you want to take the risk I'd move them so they are secure against a building so when the wind hits it it is against the wall. Poor birdies!!
I WOULD TAKE THEM DOWN AND PUT THEM IN A SAFE PLACE WHERE THE MOTHER CAN GET TO THEM..
