What is the gender difference between cockatiels2007-11-24 17:26:26Answers:

The males will lose the stripes under their tails and females will keep them. The colors dont tell the sex. They both have the same colors. I breed cockatiels.

brighter ones are males

and the darker more neutral colors are femals

I had the same question just a few months ago, when I first got my cockatiel, Winnie.

This site helped: Cockatiels.org link below to the article.

According to my vet the female cockatiel has stripes on the underside of their tails and males feathers are a solid color.
I have two Cocktiels and i know the difference because of the colors they have
the males have orange cheeks
female cockatiels have gray color and maybe some white and/or yellow spots. also, female cockatiels lay eggs (even without a male companion). and males dont. also, females are more moody.
maybe the males are more colorful than the females
I think one has a peepee and one has a weewee
There's several ways you can tell but it doesn't work on all colors of cockatiel.

The best way to tell is to listen for singing. Males will do a cute warble and will strut and bang their beak at about 6-9 months of age. They start doing this right around the time their adult colors come in. Females will chirp but they don't do an elaborate dance and song.
