What is the name of this bird2007-11-24 17:26:28

Have you ever seen that bird that weaves an intricate nest and then actually steals colorful items from people/surrounding nests/litter to lure a mate? I think some of them even pick a specific color to decorate with.

Answers:

Crows like to grab anything shinny and colorfull to attract mates. Most birds will use what ever they find laying around to build with

Lots of bird species will add flowers or even man made objects to nests. I have seen nests with different color ribbon intertwined into them, and once found a nest with a Q-tip weaved into the rim. Even saw some birds getting stuffing out of an old couch to nest build. Lots of people will leave out ribbon, yarn, hair etc. in the spring for birds to collect and nest build with.

Bower birds are ones that do this, and there are others but this is the first that came to my mind. The males make a display area with plants then get any blue coloured items to lay around. The better the display the more mates they get.
Bower Birds - there are 12 or so kinds, each gathers different type objects with individual differences. they are in Australia, mate !
