He wrote a very famous poem called The Raven. You should check it out. You might actually like it.
It was a symbol of the lost (dead) love, Lenore, which is what the poem is really about. A raven visits him while he's mourning her and keeps saying "Nevermore," as in, you'll never see her again.
It's a poem. It isn't so much about the raven, as about someone going nuts, as with all of Poe's writing.
i think the raven is meant to symbolize the conscious and inner demons of the character. Why he chose a raven to be the bird, maybe because it is black and has a stigma of evil that surrounds it.
The Raven represents the cruelty of life. If you are a sensitive person, don't read it. It's scary. WuHaHa
