What to feed ducks while visiting the lake2007-11-24 17:17:34

I figured if we were going to visit the lake and feed the ducks it'd be better to give them something more nutritional instead of bread.

I like to visit every once in a while and figured the ducks deserved better than plain 'ol bread.

I would feed them something fruity or some small vegetables. Bread is always a favorite of ducks, but maybe try something like cut up pieces of fruit.

I believe the ducks love the bread. Try croutons or better tasteing bread. I saw a kid once feeding the ducks doritos and it was eating them.

We feed ours dry dog food. It also helps that it floats! ;)

i went downtown the other day and they have dog food in old gumball containers. it's really easy to throw and cheap to buy. i hope you like this idea.

We fed our pet duck canned whole kernel corn. We drained it then just through it in the water. He loved it.

Or we would pick the corn out of the cattle feed.

We have town ordinances against feeding the ducks in our area because it makes them expect to be fed year round and they don't fly south in the winter as they should and many end up freezing in the winter time. In the summertime they tend to stay on the waters edge and expect food and leave their feces in the water near bathing beaches and eventually the lakes/public swimming areas get shut down because of duck itch. However years ago before all the rules and regulations I used to feed them bagged popcorn.
