What would be considered a good treat for my Quaker Parrot2007-11-24 17:26:08Answers:

Pretty much anything except chocolate, caffeine, booze, avocado and rhubarb leaves is acceptable as a treat. My conures love anything big enough to hold and the one quaker breeder I know says her birds are the same. Fruit, carrots and even bread smeared with a bit of peanut butter is great treat. Some birds love digging into those raisin boxes that kids get for snacks and Halloween. Not only can they eat the insides it's got a fun outside to shred! Some folks string those on a shoelace or birdy kabob as an edible toy. Some birds love cardboard tubes stuffed with dried fruits and cereal. My cockatiels go nuts for fruit loops and cheerios strung on a shoelace. Spray millet is a traditional treat as are peanuts. Peanuts and sunflower seeds should be fed in moderation due to their high fat contents. Also peanut shells can contain a fungus that makes many birds sick. That's why I feed my guys human grade peanuts only.

Good luck! Sounds like your guy is spoiled well! ^.^

raisins
A pea pod. A cherry. A cob of corn. A pill bottle that is closed and has something in it.
pieces of graham cracker
I understand avocados are poisonous to birds, other than that any fruit or vegetable he (or she) likes. Cookies, crackers, etc aren't good for us and they sure aren't good for birds!
