What would you do
I was petsitting my mother in law's birds while she's on a cruise, and her canary died. I emailed her to let her know about it (couldn't call because she's on a ship) and she hasn't responded yet. Would it be nice for me to clean and break down the cage before she gets home so she doesn't have to do it? Would you like someone to do this for you? or would you prefer to handle it yourself if this happened to you?
I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing!
Answers:I would clean up the cage and throw away the food, then put the cage back.
I would keep the bird in a show box if she's coming bakck within the week, or put it in the fridge.
(I know it sounds weird but it will preserve it longer. If she's not all that attached to the bird and it starts to smell, maybe bury it in her backyard with a marker and explain it to her)
Put the cage back in its original place after it's clean. She'll then be able to put down the cage herself, acknoledging her birds death.
Yeah, it's cheesy, but it helps people deal with their losses in life.
ohh no!! how awful!! well its not your fault. pets, especially birds, pass away so shortly. it would be nice if you cleaned it up. well at least i would like it. but make sure she gets the messege first >.^
She might not take it well if you try to remove all traces of the bird before she returns. She might get the wrong idea. I would clean everything up and leave the cage out for her to do what she wants with it.
If it was me, I'd want you to freeze the body in a little box or a Ziploc bag and put the cage away.
