Whats the minimum room temperature for a budgee to be comfortable
The area and room my birds are in is lower in temp. then the rest of the house- especially in the winter because the thermastate is further away from their room and the door stays closed between them. It is around 60-65 at night and around 65-70 depending if the sun shines. They hang out near a Huge Window and it is facing south/west. But when the Sun isn t out or goes down - it can be very cool in that area. If they feel cool - they can get closer to it and warm themselves or move away from it if they are fine or too hot. I was told by the Pet store not only to make sure they do not have contact with the parts of the Lamp (because they could burn themselves) but also that if it is in a confined area (like if they are in a cage) that it is only shining on part of it so they can move away from it-if I can remember correctly- something about that their bodies can t regulate as easily as we can (we sweat to lower body temperature). And they could have problems with too much heat. If you would prefer to heat the general area then a safe temp. controled room heater would work fine.
I purchased this when one did get chilled and started just sitting in the cage all fluffed up and not as active. He was still eating well and his droppings looked normal. The Pet store recommended trying this and it work well. It was what the problem was. It was not because of my room conditions though. I take them up to my cottage and I did Cover it and with an insulated blanket in the winter when transfering it to and from the Car. But once I didn t cover it well enough and this happend. With such drastic changes of Air temp. from one environment to another can cause problems. I now have a Quilted Bag with nylon on one side of the fabric to serve as a windbreaker and it has a zipper on one side so I can easily zip and un zip it for puting the cage in and taking it out of it. Once the Car warms up I un zip it to the level I want for Air and Light. I came across the Bag at Ikea-It actually was for a Large pillow or cushion cover. But it would be easy to make.
In their natural habitat budgies can go from high temperatures to low temperatures not a problem
People keep these birds in outdoor aviaries and as long as it does not go below freezing and the birds have a shelter they are okay.
I'd say if you, the human, are okay at the temp in your house the budgies should be fine.
