Hummers usually start to migrate back in Mid Sept here in the Midwest. Temps that have frost at night are when I take mine down. Put them up in the spring when you have 2 weeks of nights without frost. make sure until then you keep them full, they are in frenzy feeding until they leave.
Once the sugar water starts turning to ice.
BEFORE IT GETS COLD ENOUGH TO FREEZE OUTSIDE,BECAUSE IT MIGHT CRACK OR BREAK WITH THE LOW TEMPS!
When you see a humming bird sitting at a table in a resturaunt, it is time to take it down.
You should be able to take it down just after the first couple of frosts.
I take mine down then. I notice that most of my hummers are gone for the winter by then, so I pack them away until spring.
