Congratulations on being a proud owner of a baby Parrolet!

Your bird will bring you many years of love, amusement, and a bonding you may never experience with another breed of domesticated animal!

Make sure that your bird's cage is not kept next to a draft, such as an open window, or in the kitchen near the refrigerator that is contantly opened and closed. Birds have highly sensitive respiratory systems, and can live many long years in good health. But if they are subject to a draft for an extended period of time, they can get very ill.

Most bird owners cover their bird cages at night for two reasons. The first being to avoid any drafts. The second being that a bird calms down and sleeps when the room is dark, and the interior of their cage is dark. Most birds actually require 8-10 hours of sleep a day. That is why you will often see them napping in the middle of the day.

When covering your cage, place a dark colored towel, blanket, or cloth over the cage, but of course leaving enough room for them to still get some fresh air.

Spend as much time as you can with your "new baby". In the beginning they need a lot of attention so they have a chance to bond with you. If this is a single bird, then it will most likely bond with you. Birds for the most part, only bond with one person. This is the person who feeds them and handles them. They become very over-protective of their "master". Even if you decide to bring in another bird at a later time, they will most likely not bond with that other bird, because they have formed the bonding with you. They bond for life, and they are very loyal.
