While chickens are ready for mating at around twenty four weeks, I wouldn't recommend it.

Your chicken will start laying eggs wether she's fertilized or not. When she starts laying eggs, give her another two or three weeks. The first eggs a chicken lays tend to be small and deformed. So, you want to wait till she's laying good before letting her set eggs. Otherwise you'll get small babies who aren't likely to survive.

An adult rooster will mate a 2 month old hen. There is no distinction in age. The hens always yell and get mad but no it doesn't really hurt them.

Its not like breeding a cat or dog or horse too early.

The only thing you need to watch out for is the rooster cluches on to the hen with his nails, and will rip the feathers out of her back and hurt her skin, if they area aloud to be together alot.
