I have a couple that I just found in my backyard. You are welcome to have them. I live just outside of Detroit. They should arrive within a few days. I'm guessing by Monday since I sent the envelope off this morning, the 2nd. By the way, the 3"-long feathers that I have sent are from the sides of the bird, not the tail. The long tail feathers might be more like 5 to 6" in length. I hope that these are what you want.
I actually had one laying around here someplace that I found outside.Don't know where it went. I do have a bunch of chicken wing feathers in grey and black from my two pet cluckers, Dollyburton and Blackie, if that's any help.
Blue Jays have been few and far between in my area for the last couple of years due to West Nile.
That's illegal, sorry to say.
It's not enforced much, cause they're not going to arrest some kid for picking up a gull feather at the beach, but technically it is illegal to possess parts of a migratory bird without a permit. (Huntable species excluded). They do this so they can prosecute people who poach and deal in illegal wildlife trade.
