If you're looking to actually race or to find out more about race birds, I suggest that you contact a more local racing club.

If you're in the U.S. you can go to http://www.pigeon.org or to http://www.ifpigeon.com/ both are national racing pigeon clubs and at each site, you can find a local club or contact information.

If you're in Canada, you can get the same info for their clubs at http://www.canadianracingpigeonunion.com.

If you are planning to rear eggs without having pigeon parents to feed them, don't even think about it. While it's technically possible to rear a pigeon from egg to hatch to adult by hand, it happens only about 1 in more than a 100. "Chicks" - squeakers also need to be got after they're at least 28 days old, so that they can be weaned.

You might want to ask the American Racing Pigeon Union for their Beginner's book. You can request that on line at their site: the http://www.pigeon.org listing above.
