Where can I get a free bird2007-11-24 17:26:43

I know there are birds that people no longer want or need. I would like to rescue a small one.

Answers:

Try a local bird rescue or bird club. But, remember, you get what you pay for and a "free" bird is likely to have some health and/or behavior problems. Our BFA was "free", but by the time we were done with the initial vet visit, we had spent upwards of $900.00 on testing, behavior consultation, specialty food, medications, etc. A bargain is not always the bargain you hope it will be. we knew what we getting into, so, we were ok with it, but, be warned that sometimes "free" will come back to bite you.

Hi, firstly if you want a small bird the two easiest ones

to care for are the finch(hate human contact though)

and the budgie/parakeet(good all around). they are both

small but the parakeets are a little bigger, are cheaper,

and dont require a big cage setup.I think that you might

wanna try getting one of either from your local pet store.

Overall i think you'd have a better experience with a parakeet

and they are around 15.99 to 25.99 at the pet store, good luck!

look in the classified in your local paper and they might have one or your avian vet might have a board with ads for free birds

free birds, or rescue birds are NOT for beginners. The free birds usually have many problems both physically and emotionally! Please consider this when getting a free or rescued bird.
