Where is the best place to hang suet
For all it's nastiness, feeding suet is the greatest attractant for birds! Just about every feathered creature likes it!
Hang it on a post, tree, or other surface -- upright or flat, it doesn't matter as long as you can see it from the house.
Be sure it's an area you don't mind the melted goop. That includes the type that is advertised as "no melt" or "won't go rancid" <-- they lie.
You don't necessary need a suet cage but it does keep the furry animals from running away with the ill-gotten gains. If you go with a cage, VERY firmly attached it to your surface of choice.
You can also pack a cage with oranges and apples for the orioles and tanagers.
Do NOT hang it ON the house or too close to the house -- your sense of smell will be quite offended, as well as your house painter. :-p
.
I have a big tree in my front yard and that's where I hang it. there's one that i have hanging near my courtyard.
Hang it outside near trees..not in the middle of the yard with no protection..birds are vulnerable while eating so they like a safe place to feed.
