Which country in Europe has the best birdlife
I'm looking for a great destination for an avid birdwatcher
Answers:It depends on when you want to go. The UK does have some great birding, particularly The Scilly Islands off of the west Coast of southern England and the Shetland Islands north of Scotland during migration. They both have some incredible records of birds not normally found in the UK.
Spain has some amazing birding, both during migration and otherswise. Its on a flyway into Africa so you have the opportunity to see a wide variety of birds. I have also heard that Poland has some great spots.
Europe as a whole does not have the diversity of species that North America has. Years of high population density has limited habitat. There are places where extensive hunting has hurt populations, also.
If you get in touch with the American Birding Association they have listings of birders all over the world who you can contact to get area information. Their web page is www.aba.org. Good luck!
UK, has lots of native birds plus migrant speices.
