My book and vet didn't say anything about seprating them after they mated. I was in the process of making a clutch box. In case she was going to lay eggs.
Answers:They were not a true pair. Sounds like they were of the same sex fighting for terriory. Lovebirds don't kill after they mate. I breed lovebirds so I do know something about them. Maybe your cage is to small.. They might have been fighting over food. I am sorry for your loss. You do know that you don't need a pair of lovebirds. One lovebird makes a wonderful pet! They bond to you. You become the buddy. I do hope your next experience will be a better one.

Perhaps one suggested a deed the other was unwilling to perform..
This is almost always an issue with the birds hating their owners. They get so depressed and angry that they would even kill themselves
I saw this on this pet show one time they said they are like people the romance just left! you should've seperated them untill you thought they could handle bieng back in the same cage!!

Too bad she became human.
once you noticed they were starting to fight,,it would have been a good idea to separate them then if you have an extra cage. most bird keepers keep an extra cage for that reason or to remove a sick bird..i have two lovebirds and i'm not planning to mate them nor the other birds i have..
