Why do cocks crow

Why do cocks crow2007-11-24 17:27:01

I have two and it's like a contest as to which one can crow the loudest, especially at five in the morning. Also, during the day they will suddenly stop what they are doing and start to crow for no apparent reason. Please help.

It's to warn everything away from his treasured hens. I live on a farm and have three roosters and they have three groups. If one hen strays the head rooster from the hens original "clan" crows to get her back and get her attention aswell as the other roosters so they don't steal his hen. It can also mean that their scared. At night when closeing up the rest of the animals the chickens are the first to be in the shelter before anything else and when I walk by and spoke them when they seem me they crow. I don't believe it has ever been proven that roosters crow at sunrise other than that's when you hear them and that's the way cartoons portray roosters

No offense, but that's like saying "Why do dogs bark?"

Because that's what roosters do!

I believe it is like the kookaburra its a territorial thing they are marking out their territory
What a cockk!
The reason * crow is coz its their nature. When two cocks are together, they have to compete for dominance coz the dominate one get to mate with the chickent. Its a ego thing in the end.
Same reason your partner gets an erection every morning! It's always to do with sex.
the same reasons has cate meow, dogs bark, cows moo and horses neigh
Cuz if they barked they'd just look plain stupid
Cocks are very territorial and ideally, you should only have one male to a flock of hens as they will just get stressed out trying to "outdo" their perceived rival.
It's the male mentality, LOL. Like guys competing with fish stories.
That's what they do!
Mating calls. He crow for a mate or if he has a mate he crows

for his ego.
