Why does my birds tell fethers fall out all the time2007-11-24 17:27:33

Her tail feathers fall out all the time, even when she's in her cage and sitting down.

Birds molt two to three times a year It is not only the tail feathers that fall out and they are very messy.. they also lose there feathers when it is time for them to bread, even if you only have one bird.

I know some bird's go through a period of moulting, or perhaps it could be a sign of sickness and/or stress if her feathers are falling out year round :/ Perhaps a trip to the vet if it contines. What kind of bird is it? How old is she? Did you just recently buy her (from a previous owner or pet store)? Sorry, more info might help others who answer.

It could be molting but it could also be that she is plucking her tail feathers out. My female Senegal plucks her tail feathers once they grow out -- she doesn't pluck elsewhere on her body, just the tail.

You might want to schedule a visit with her avian vet to make sure she hasn't got a skin problem or any other health issues that are going on. If she is healthy, try misting her every day and make sure she has lots of toys to play with. A bored bird with turn to plucking when they have nothing else to do.

If they're falling out, she may be moulting. Be sure she's not pulling them out herself. That can mean she's upset.

all birds go thru a molting 1-3 times a year.In the case of my Bobo&Bobbie,there tail feathers falling out was genetic.the vet recomended 8in1 Skin & Plumage drops along with the Molt&Conditioner supplement.after 2 years of barely any tail feathers,they both had most all there tail feathers within just a few weeks.the drops dont cost much and you can get them at most pet stores.Also,make sure the birds perches are far enough away from the sides of cage so the bird is not hitting his feathers on the bars.
