What your parrot is actually doing is preening you. "Preening" is cleaning of the feathers. They also help their friends break open the new feathers when they are molting (growing new feathers) by cracking open the little cases containing the actual feather. This material is called keratin.not unlike the material that makes up your fingernails. It looks like the end of a shoelace. Since you have no feathers, your bird will preen your hair or beard if you are a man. It is a bonding thing. You are his friend and his flock, so he is showing you his affection by helping you clean your "feathers".
