Why dont we eat turkey eggs2007-11-24 17:27:08

Surely turkeys must lay eggs and we eat chicken, duck, goose eggs, why not turkey?

Answers:

Turkey eggs are not available on a commercial scale simply because there is very little demand. They are also expensive to mass-produce. Turkey hens lay an average of 4.5 eggs per week over 24 weeks. Although the runny yolk is not ideal for frying, turkey eggs are delicious scrambled and particularly lend themselves to baking for an extra fluffy texture! Many farms sell eggs at the farm gate to local shoppers

Why would you want to
I am not sure ,but I know that they are a richer in texture and great for baking.
I don't like eggs
Very good question, Ive never seen them for sale ?.
Good thinking there girl!

Emm i reckon beause turkeys dont really lay that many eggs and it takes them aaaaaaggges to hatch. But anyway Ive never even seen them for sales, where would you even buy them? you have me thinking now..

I suppose you can if you really want to. Perhaps they don't taste very good, but if taste or illness aren't concerns, you can really eat anything if it exists, and if you can put it in your mouth and swallow it.
Turkeys are breed for just eating, ok that sound cruel. The wild turkey are very smart and hide, so we never see thier eggs.
Because turkey farmers make more money by letting the eggs hatch and having more turkeys.
Yeah, good point, and what is the purpose of that thing hanging under there beak/chin
My neighbor since childhood actually raised turkeys on a huge farm and they actually sold the eggs to local markets for consumpton. We always ate them growing up and they are pretty tasty. They are bigger than chicken eggs and since chickens are easier to raise. Also most turkey eggs are to big for a recipe that calls for one egg.
Because they taste FOWL?
i have a friend who farms turkeys and he lets me have a couple of turkey eggs on a regular basis, they are richer than a chicken and dont have the disadvantage of tasting fishy like duck eggs. Incidentally the same man also keeps guinea fowl and i will have a couple of their eggs within the next week or so to try.
not sure
I think if we ate turkey eggs where would all the thanksgiving turkeys come from?? i think they are too busy fertilizing them so we can have our holiday feasts!! lol
I thought it was because they keep every egg to keep the flock going.
some of us do. Most of my other poultry breeder/smallholder friends who keep turkeys eat their eggs and also those of guinea fowl.
I've never thought of it before. Maybe because there isn't a high demand for them, and I assume the same is with duck eggs.
It's simple. They are more expensive to produce. The cost per bird to feed with the return in egg production is higher in Turkeys than in Chickens.
