Love birds are as intelligent and trainable as the larger parrots. You will have to realize that their size will put some limits on what they can do. They are also unlikely to become talkers. Skill at mimicry varies from Parrot species to species.

It is best that you have 1 lovebird (so they bond to you and not another bird) and that it be a younger bird. As with all animals training will take time and a lot of patience. It took many years to teach the parrots you see in shows their tricks. You have to expect to need to put that kind of time in with your lovebird too.

all birds can be trained to a certian extent. but if you mean doves? then probly im not a bird person but my parkeets are pretty well trained i can hole then they kinda talk but im not sure about love birds

They are dwarf parrots, but if they bite you, believe me there is no difference!! Very much like chihuahuas, if you socialize them when very young, like hand raise, feed, they are wonderfull pets, but if they are 3mos. 4mos. and have not been trained your in for trouble. At least your chihuahua will love you and not like other people if it's not been socialized, but a lovebird will detest people period. Good luck!

and sorry with no luck at all, if just starting out with birds try a budgie,,,,,,,,

I have now got a cockatiel(quarrion) that talks, whistles, sneezes and drives me batty.. good luck

You betcha! Have you every seen the movie Bill and Coo! The whole movie has trained lovebirds in it! In fact the hero is a lovebird! Lovebirds are extremely smart and very amazing! Get some of the clicker training books. Those should get you started..
