do Cockatiels and budgies mix well in the same cage2007-11-24 17:19:13

I have a 2 year old cockatiel and he likes lots of attention which i can't always give him and i feel that he can get lonely so i would like to buy a companion for him, would a budgie be ok to put in the same cage with my cockatiel.

Answers:

I do not recommend putting a budgie with a tiel for a couple of reasons:

1)They have different dietary and space needs

2) Budgies like to play with tiels who rather be left alone, so a fight has a good chance of occurring.

It should definately be okay - however, you may want another cockatiel instead of a budgie. I had budgies mixed with my cockatiels for years and they didn't mind - however, just a word of caution - you may have to separate them if they start fighting b/c it's not something they will stop doing once they start. But I doubt that will happen for you - good luck!

This isn't a good idea. Even though some people might have done it, you should never attempt this, it could result in if not one maybe more dead birds or seriously hurt birds. I would try to get another cockatiel, maybe female? I have had LOTS of experience with birds. I have owned, raised, and bred birds for about 14 years. So if you want a campanion for your cockatiel, please don't get a budgie

They wouldn't probubly be fine together as long as the cage was large enough that the tiel could get away from the keet. Believe it or not..despite the size, keets are aggressive and very persistant. They won't actually hurt the tiel but they can really bug the crap out of them.
