how to look after a baby ducklingthats wild and has been abandenedby its mum
NO NO NO!
You do not say where you live.but wild ducklings are not hactching this time of year in the USA.
Unless you see mom dead or KNOW she is dead she may not have abandoned the baby. it is VERY common for them to get sperated and thery will eventuaKLLY FIND EACH OTHER AGAIN.
I have ALOT of experience with both domestic, urban and wild waterfowl. I have been in this situation myself MANY MANY times and even have 2 urban ducks that a MOM was killed.. and they were too young to be on own..
Having said that. if itis not cold out at night ducklings can be on own as soon as 1 week. they eat bugs, aquatic plants and other small water insects and mosquitos.
Wild ducks often carry parasites, worms and other bacteria in their fecal matter(poop) and it is never ok to keep them as pets.
If you can give me more info as to where you found them , a park pond,, a lake etc.. I might be better able to determine if they are wild or hybrids.. A hybrid is a mix of a wild and domestci duck and this happens on park ponds where unwanted pets get dropped off and breed with wild ducks. the rules are different for those ducks. if you can tell me more about the ducklings I can help you determine age.. about how long are they. are they only fluffy or have any feathers at all?
still peeping I assume no quacks?
If you feel on the belly areas do you feel a bump small pimple size bump around the middle. if so this is the umbilicus
