i have 2 love birds, the small one is losing feathers between wings why2007-11-24 17:21:53

i never see them fight just cuddle

they could be plucking each other, watch them and if necessary, put them in seperate cages for a while

usually if young birds are "losing" feathers, it may be because the bird is plucking them out.

A bird that does this is believe to be a sign of mental illness in the bird. If it continues to lose feathers over its body, take it to a vet and see if they can diagnose anything. I would suggest keeping it away from the other bird until you figure it out.

It can be 2 things. Either one is plucking the feathers of the other one, or the one missing feathers is doing it himself. Its caused either from boredom, or a vitamin deficiency. There is a product you can add to their water called Pluck No More. Changing their toys may help if its from boredom.

If you are allowing your Birds to fly around the house you are playing with danger. There are too many things a bird can get hurt or killed by from being allowed to fly around. You may want to have their wings checked for blood feathers. When you say they are losing feathers in the wings, how many feathers are you talking about? Feathers do normally fall out just like hair does, but if the bird is losing more then is normal then it could have a health issue or may be lacking something in it's diet. Lovebirds are not really mental birds I would be more concerned about it's health first.
