i have a cockatiel and it has a problem of fruit flys around and IN its cage i dont know how to get2007-11-24 17:22:03

lots of the fruit flys are scaring my bird plz help

I agree clean the cage and if your feeding your bird fruit they are most likely attracted to that.you don't have to stop just take an empty water bottle cut the top off put an over ripe bannana in the water bottle and stick the lid back in drinking opening first surprisingly the fruit flies will go in and get trapped make a couple of these and put them around the cage and any obvious areas they might me

I agree. Remove any people food and make sure everything is clean. Maybe even put some food out for them away from the cage to distract them.

Take your bird to a vet and have it professionally washed and groomed. It sounds like the bird has a smelling problem and that is what is attracting the flies!

take the cage apart and scrub it. do not use any chemicals just scrub it and rinse it really well. Check and see if you have old fruit sitting in a fruit bowl Check and see if you have a house plant that is going into root rot.

I also have a cockatiel, you can purchas what they call 8-1 bird portector at Wal-Mart or any pet supply, just put it on the cage, and cover your bird up at night, it has a slight smell and the bird will not bother it. It really works. Good Luck

Sounds like you aren't changing the food properly. Any fresh foods should be removed within a couple of hours because it starts to spoil.
