i have a quaker parrot that`s pluncking himself need to know why
anxiety, stress or just perhaps boredom. Did something happen recently that upset the bird? Or perhaps you can put it in a different spot for a change or give it a new toy.
Usually birds do this when they are stressed or bored.
He could be molting.
maybe he's going mad,
which is what caging does.
Try it yourself.
There are many possible reasons that your bird is plucking.
There are physical issues (consult an avian veterinarian to do some blood work up and check for internal and external parasites).
There are environmental factors:
The bird is living in substandard conditions regarding the amount of space it has, the amount and type of light it is getting, the type of nutrition, the amount of moisture in the air (and whether it is able to bathe or is misted frequently enough).
If you or someone in your home is a smoker, the air quality can also be affecting the bird.
There are psychological reasons, as well, such as how much emotional attachment it has to its humans and whether the relationships have changed recently (did you take a new job, or have a new person living in the house?), whether it is being sufficiently stimulated mentally (does it have new and exciting toys?).
Start with a visit to an avian vet.
Make certain the cage is of sufficient size for your bird and is placed in the room for enough but not too much stimulation from its humans.
