As expensive as necter is getting, be froogle!I feed 2 ounces at a feeding, and clean water each feeding ofcourse. Depending where you live the climate plays a factor in feeding. If you live in warmer places change the necter two to three times a day. I use a ceramic bird cup with a half cover top to minimize food all over the cage, also this slows down any fruit flys getting in the food. I also like the cute little noises he makes as they echo on the ceramic hood. Occasionally fruit cocktail(the juice packed, not corn syrup) is a nice change. And when my roses are blooming I offer a open rose bud to immitate his natural diet.

You shouldn't feed it just nectar. It should also have clean water and some kind of powdered lory food. The nectar should be replaced once a day or more often if it's hot or gets spoiled. It should be mixed fresh every time.

Maybe a few tablespoons at a time--experiment to see how much it drinks.

My lories eat about a heaping tablespoon of powdered food a day each, plus fruit.

I have a red lory, and he's quite the mad hatter! He eats about a tablespoon of nectar in a day, but it has to be made fresh everytime, otherwise he wont even look at it! Give him range in his diet, lots of juicy fruits and veg to chew on. Mine loves baby carrots, grapes, lychees, apple, pretty much anything that's a little sweet tasting and is kinda juicy. Mine gets a whole skinned apple with the rest of his food every day and he eats the entire thing! Birds have totally individual tastes so try many things and see what he thinks of certain options, then you'll notice the things he likes. Pronutro with a little sugar is my Houdini's favourite night time snack before bed! Also as a treat, give him a cookie, or a piece of choc, even toast with syrup or honey on it. He'll most likely dunk it in his water bowl to soften it, then eat the sweet bit, so keep an eye on his water! they will eat anything you eat, even meats in moderation, so give him the choices and he'll decide what he wants, but he'll never be undernourished! (NB! No Avocado! its poisonous to them!)
