I have 2 lovies, and I know other than DNA testing theres a few ways to tell. Males have a smaller pelvic bone so their feet will be closer together if not touching when they are just standing. Another is males tend to be a lot more petite and skinnier than the females. Another way to check is the tailfeathers on males are said to come to a point, and females will look more rounder like in a "U" shape. Another way is a pelvic check, but I wouldn't recommend this because you have only had them 2 days and they don't know you very well. Good luck!

Do you have a place that the birds can nest so that the egg may hatch? Sometimes the male will feed the female or upchuck seeds to her. have you seen this display? The male will groom the female. The male will mount the female. If you have not seen anyone of these gestures it could be that the female laid the egg but it could also not be fertile. Didn't the store that you got the birds from tell you what you were purchasing. Do you even know if you purchased one of each.? Many times it is the display of the birds that tells the sex. I suggest you get a book about love birds or contact a breeder so that you can properly prepare for egg laying and give special attention to diet.

The only sure way is to have them DNA tested, but the old fashioned way is take a look at them closely. The females colors will be just a little less bright than the male. Really, we don't need to know.they do! Now, be sure to mark the date on your calendar and count ahead 28 days. That is when your egg should hatch. If it hasn't, take it away. They'll try again later. Make sure you have a laying box for them and get them some nesting material so they can build their nest and keep the eggs warm. Also, while your at the pet store, ask them to show you where the calcium supplement is for lovebirds. You'll want to buy that and put some in a bowl for her. She's using calcium every time she lays an egg and will need to have it replaced. Good luck!

If the lovebirds are of the same coloration, the male will have a brighter tail than the female otherwise watch for feeding behavior. He will feed her too.
