I have a bonded pair of perfect lorikeets--the female is around 13 and the male around 15. They are very small and very cute. Their plumage has the same markings as my much larger rainbow lorikeets but the perfects are all green & yellow. They talk, but not well. They are extremely manic and crazy and need a bigger cage than other birds of their size. (Mine are in a cage that's 3' long, 3' high and 8" deep--1/2 bar spacing). They sleep under the paper at the bottom of the cage at night. They like toys they can hold and throw around (I call them "hand toys)--the little plastic balls with bells in them for cats are perfect--as well as hanging toys they can swing from.

They like me but they don't like being handled. Their previous owner was able to handle the male a little; he didn't have the female for long before I adopted them.

Lorikeets will never sit tamely on a perch outside of their cage. They might or might not consent to sit on your shoulder (more likely your head) but not for long. And they poop, a lot, and often.

Like all lories and lorikeets, perfects need a special diet. NO SEEDS. Ever. I feed mine a combination of Zupreem pellets, Pretty Bird Species Select Lory pellets, fruit, and a powdered lory diet. The pellets are soaked in boiling water with a little honey and served slightly warm with fruit. On alternate days they get the powder and fruit.
