love birds, what temperatures can they tolerate if living outside2007-11-24 17:23:26Answers:
What temperature would you want to tolerate?
Remember their origins lie in Africa and Madagascar..
They can live outside if properly introduced to the weather outside. I have a outside aviary, but I don't put any new birds in that aviary til summer. The reason is so they can change with the weather outside. They will start to molt heavily from summer to fall. They will be adding new feathers and new down feathers that will help them get though the fall and winter months. Just provide extra food and good shelter from the weather. They should be ok outside. But NEVER put a bird that has been in a house outside that doesn't have the feathers to keep it warm.
Good luck! If you have any additional questions feel free to email me.
You'd be surprised. We have flocks of wild Lovebirds and Budgies here in Phoenix, AZ and during the winter at night the temperatures can dip in to the 30's and the birds survive. There are similar wild parrot flocks around the country in even colder regions.
you'll be surprised, there are green parrots living in the Connecticut shoreline area they came from a plane that crashed in long island, there is hundreds of them, so if they survive winter temperatures then they only need time to adjust
