i had a female lay 6 eggs and 5 survived a month later she has layed 6 more eggs and i think she may be going for 2 more..can a budgie lay this much? i heard they can only do 6 at a time

Oh, no! That isn't good! She can get very ill and die. I actually had a bird die, Sparky, from being egg bound. But that may not be the case here if she isn't egg bound. But make her days shorter, like covering up her cage or what ever she is in to make it appear like night. Then make sure she is getting plenty of veggies. Next, take out her nest box or anything she has in there that is provoking her to lay eggs (if she lays them on the bottom of the cage like mine did, sorry). Last but not least, call you vet to see what else you can do for her. This is really dangerous for heer to be laying so many at a time.

Good luck!

A normal cluch size is 6-8 eggs. I have had a few lay around the 8 eggs and i have had one who has laid 11 eggs.

Give her the right foods and she will raise them. If you dont want her to lay anymore than a certin amount just mark how many eggs you want and the ones you dont want put a hole in just a little and let her sit on it.

They reccomend they dont lay anymore than 3 cluches a year (i think its 3 or 4) so they dont get worn out.

Hope I have helped

iv been breeding budgies for over 5 years now & i find that budgies dont stop laying eggs unless you seperate the females from their partner or take the nest boxes out of the avairy. When i first started breeding budgies i only had 2 in my avairy & they were brother & sister. They layed 11 eggs but obviously none of them hatched as they were brotehr & sister. I have heard that budgies can olny lay 6 eggs at a time but obviously its not correct its just another myth. I find that most of my budgies have a cutch of around 5-7 eggs usually though the 11 egga was a fluke i guess i dont know how fluffy and barney layed so many eggs. You have to be very careful not to let your budgies breed to much as they fenales if they lay too many eggs develop tumours. Without having an oparation to remove the tumours the females die. I did not know this when i first started breeding & i just let my budgies breed as much as they wanted however all of my original females have since died - most of them from tumours. Be very careful about how many times you let each pair beed in a year. I only let my females lay 2 batches of eggs a year now and it seems to be preventing a lot of females from developing tumours although some still do. hope this helps.by the way im not making up the whole 11 eggs thing its all true- whether you want to believe it or not
