Birds are very delicate animals. Many will begin to pull out their own feathers if they're left alone for a period of time, if something in the room changes like a new picture is put up or the furniture is moved. They also may do this if they lose a mate.

My advice is to talk to a veterinarian and get some advice. You could also talk to a pet store that specializes in birds. They may be able to refer you to someone who can help. There are also a lot of personal web pages out there with stories of people's own birds. Of course, you can't guarantee their accuracy but it might be a place to start.

Cockatiels, can be very prone to bird lice or parasites and other skin irritants, u need to check with your local pet shop or vet to see if they have a dust that u can use on your bird and then once well purchase a lice protector that can be hung on the side of your cage and replaced ever 30 to 60 days.. they can be purchased at petco. Get him treated soon before they take over his body.good luck

I'm not sure whether your cockatiel is ill, although it certainly sounds stressed. A trip to the vet would be ideal. Once your bird has been checked out and given a clean bill of health, make SURE you go to the internet and purchase pet insurance.
