she either got to them to late or didn't sit on them long enough at a time or the rooster just didn't get her yet!

Maybe your Hen didn't start sitting on them until it was to late. I know Hens can leave there eggs unattended before sitting on them and them turning into wee chicks. I'm not sure how long this window of grace is. trying searching it in Google or something.

may not have been fertilized.the egg is only half the chick equation. The rooster's got some crowing to do before they are layed or else you ONLY have eggs. Not future chickens! That's why you don't count your chickens before they hatch!

You need to put the hen with a rooster and he will fertilize the eggs. Then the hen will lay them and if she "goes broody" (ie: sits on the eggs), then you will have little chicks hatch. If the eggs don't hatch, then your rooster may not be fertile. You can make a simple egg candler. This will light up the inside of the egg and if you see a dark blotch, then your egg is fertile. If you see a big blotch, then there was a chick inside and something went wrong (maybe the hen got off the eggs for too long). good question only logical answer is that _even if the hen sat on those eggs for 46 days they still wouldn't hatch. put the rooster to work--big guy!!

eggs are laid on different dates and do not all hatch at once..let her set until it's apparent there are none hatching, at least another 7-10 days ps. you can tell if they are fertile by picking them up.a fertile egg with a chick inside is lighter and looks different and if you hold it up in the light, you can see shadows

Sometimes, it is not then hens fault, if you do have a rooster sometimes it is sometimes it isn't fertalized. I had this hen brood on her next for a month, yet nothing happened because we got rid of the rooseter. Ha, sometimes a hen even lays on another hens eggs. SO if you have a rooster try again, if not, well, order your fertalized eggs online and then have your hens sit on them.
