pet ducks(s)
I would like to get a pet duck. But I don't know what breed to get or how to properly take care of it or where to get it. I also don't know how many. Please help.
And I need good sources too.
Answers:Okay, this is going to be disappointing for you, probably, but ducks do NOT make good pets, despite the presence of one in that show with the tough military dude taking care of the kids. 1.) Ducks poop. It is projectile. Ducks projectile poop a LOT. It is nasty, and it is what they do.
2.) Ducks love roots! They will eat the roots to all the grass in your yard, turning it into a mud-pit for their personal enjoyment.
If you live in the country and can put them outside, it's fine, but you're going to need a dog to guard them at night and in the rain because that's when the coyotes, foxes, owls, opposums, raccoons, snakes, other dogs, etc. come looking for yummy duck dinner. It's generally best to have ten babies for warmth. Until they get their feathers, they need to be kept under a heat lamp with duck & turkey starter as food and a good water source. They will splash the water EVERYWHERE and need it refilled and/or changed at least six times a day. Also, their bedding will need changed a ridiculous amount of times (because of projectile poop). If you're in the city, don't do it. You can check with the city regulations and see how many you have to have and try it, but I seriously don't recommend.
you shouldn't get a duck for a pet. they don't make good pets, even though as ducklings, they are very cute.
