Answers:It really does depend on what exactly is wrong with your bird. It may be a cold, but it might also be a number of other things. An avian vet would be able to tell for sure. This is always a safe bet as the vet can also prescribe medication that could drastically help.
As far as things you can do on your own:
Keep it away from any other birds.
Keep it warm 鈥?place it under a heat lamp on low or place the cage on top of a heating pad also on low.
Try to keep it in a quiet, stress-free environment.
If not giving it any other medications, you can try giving it some Echinacea and garlic tablets 鈥?the same as you would find in any drug store. It鈥檚 difficult to overdose with either of these but about 500mg is the standard size tablet. For Echinacea I sprinkle one on their food. For garlic, I buy the smallest capsule (liquid gel cap only) and place it on their tongue/back of mouth while holding their beak open; I do this twice a day.
A safe point to stop the Echinacea treatment is after 1 week. Any longer than that and you risk other health problems.
Take it to the vet.
Give him a cracker. Take him to the vet. Give him a cracker if he'll go to the vet.
Take your bird to an avian vet, if your bird is showing signs of being sick you need professional help. Keep him warm and make an appointment quickly!

animals don't get colds like humans, they get respiratory
infections and these are very serious, get your bird to the
vet asap
Vet is the ONLY thing to do! DO not try and self medicate a bird, especially with colds!! Birds can hide illness for days. Best to take it in NOW.
