That is great that you care about wildlife. You'll need to look in the phone book or call your local wildlife center and find a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. This person will be highly trained in caring for baby birds and can give the baby Jay the best possible chance. Please hurry as birds have high metabolisms and can die quickly without the right care.

Also, it is a violation of US federal law for you to remove a native wild bird species such as a Blue Jay from the wild and keep it in your possession. So, keeping this baby bird yourself is illegal, anyway. Please make sure it gets to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator ASAP.

lyricsopranosinger is correct and there is no better answer, even if you are doing good for the bird you are in violation of federal law.

A friend was recently charged $500.00 for saving the life of a barn owl, go figure.

If it must be fed while in your custody chop liver or tuna with a little oatmeal with hold him over.

If you have other birds keep it far away and ALWAYS wash good before crossing borders as disease will spread like wildfire. Watch for parasites as well

Are you sure it is not a fledgling that has already left the nest. It is very late in the season for a baby to still be about. If it is fully feathered it is probably being cared for by the parents.they leave the nest before they can fly and the parents will care for them in a scrub or tree. Only if the bird is mostly bald would it need your help.or should be taken to a bird rehab. If it is feathered, please put it back where you found it as long as it is a safe place (no cats or dogs around) and the parents should come back to feed it.
