what is the best way to make a parrot stop screaming at the very sight of you

Usually when my birds do that, I love them.

I try to pet and cuddle and give them attention BEFORE they scream, though.

In the mornings, they will scream as soon as they hear me up and about, and stop screaming when I come into their room to let them out and tell them "good morning" and give them their morning treat or share my breakfast. As I said, I usually try to do this BEFORE they start screaming.

I really do find that atleast "saying hi" and talking to them whenever I see them makes the screaming less lengthy.

My youngest is 2 years old and she screams ALOT. If your bird is this young, it is probably a life stage thing.

My older bird knows "1-2-3 timeout" when he starts screaming without reason or throwing a tantrum -- but he is RARELY in a cage. At the count of 3 he gets locked in a small covered cage for a few minutes (until 5 minutes after he has calmed down). Things rarely get past the count of 2 with him. If you choose to do this with your older bird, I really reccommend reading the parenting book "1-2-3 magic" and following that method exactly and consistently. My younger bird does NOT understand this, and since she is in her terrible twos, it is really not age approprait to punish her in this way. let me emphasize again, that my birds have run of their own ROOM (my mostly-parrot proofed office where I am alot- to tons of attention as well)--- and if you are not able to give your bird alot of attention or let it out of its cage alot, then "1-2-3 magic" could be considered cruel. I also NEVER use this if Boo is screaming FOR a "reason" (ie: people outside, sees a mouse, the other bird stole his toy, he is scared, etc).
