Answers:well big parrots like blue and gold macaws size live 100+ yrs and if hand raised and cared for properly are fun and love humans..medium sized parrots like african greys live 80+ yrs and they need lots of care (like all parrots )and greys are more sensitive than some breeds but can be fun and love people too they all require lots of time and care.they are messy and loud and very smart and b/c of that they need lots of interaction to keep mentally healty .get as much info.(not just from the person who sold it to you ..lots of times they can leave out things to make a sell.. parrots cost alot of money)and need lots of room esp. med. to large ones.if you are knowleable and have the time and do not mind cleaning up after them daily. they are great companions and can be apart of a family.GOOD QUESTION =)

That's hard. how long to parrots live? Oh, budgies are great! If you get the right kind - my grandmother had a pet budgie called joey, and he talked ALL the time - she used to let him fly around the room sometimes and he loved baths. Ask at the pet shop about them - one og the sexes talks more than the other. Ask which one. They're not big, but they're loads of fun!

African Greys, Macaws, and I'm surprised this has not been recommended more..COCKATOOS! All of these birds are quite large, very long lived (possibly to well over 60 years with proper care and diet), and are fairly good in a family situation. Amazons are also one of the larger birds.However, they are said to become very aggressive and unpredictable once they have reached sexual maturity, so I would personally not recommend one for a family environment.
