i have 2 cockatiels that have just started to mate in the last few days should i leave them where they are or move them to a quiter room where the kids can't bother them so much (the kids love to hold them and i know they cant come out of the cage)
Answers:Leave then where they are as moving them may upset them and they could stop them mating.
Make sure the nest box is ready and attached to their cage so that if the hen starts to lay it is in the right place.
If they are mating where they are they should not be disturbed by anything that is normal to them.
I agree with steve. I'd leave them there. I have been breeding tiels for years and I never move my pairs. They are on eggs with the cages in the living room..with the family dog running about. With the other birds in the house flying around..and with the children being children. If they are family birds..they need to be around the family and moving them is just going to cause them to raise a fuss.
definitely move them to somewhere they can have privacy or when they lay their eggs they could break them breeding birds don't like to be disturbed they like and need their privacy
My book says birds want a place where the action is which for me means the dining room buffet where they can see out the window all day long and they love that. Keep them as far from the door as possible and dont let the kids open the door that is close to them. They must be trained to close the door very quickly. Mine can fly free. Two birds are happy together and wont usually try to escape. I pet their tummies in the morning but there is no other holding. Maybe you have handtamed ones cuz mine wont come on the finger. I have parakeets.
I agree with Steve. They are used to the kids and the noise that comes along with them. If you move them, it may interrupt what is going on. Just a suggestion, but maybe put a sheet over the cage when there is a lot of action in the room that may upset the birds.
ok.
