whats the best kind of bird to get as a pet2007-11-24 17:26:12

Cockatiels are probably the easiest to enjoy. They are cute, friendly, easy to train, and they learn to talk and whistle very easily. They will actively seek you out for attention.

Parakeets are cheap and easy but they can be skittish and take time to tame. If you take the time to play with them every day they can be very friendly. They are not good talkers so there's no guarantee they will every learn to speak.

Lovebirds are alot of fun. They are very smart and have lots of personality. They like to squeek too. They don't talk or whistle though.

Sasha, u can take cockietail, parakeet, sparrows,p. are very good for starters.they can be easily handed and taken care.
I think I would get a canary. They look beautiful and can sing to you when you are down.
It depends on how much time you have for it. Are you home all the time or gone a lot. Some birds will pluck themselves and mourn themselves to death if left unattended too long. If you get a pair of birds this helps when it comes to loneliness. They also need toys to occupy their time.

Some are really loud, like lovebirds and conures. Will that annoy you. It depends on who you are as to what you will like best.

Most large parrots need lots of attention.

It depends on how much time, money, space, and patience you have. If you want something small go for a budgie, canary, parrotlett(although they are high matinance theyre cute!) or a finch, they are not that expensive(Max $35) If you would like a larger bird go for a lovebird,or a cockitiel. They are more matinence, require a bigger cadge, and the cost from $100 to $200(If you want a fancy on thats been hand tamed)
Here is a good site that gives info on getting a pet bird:

it all depends on you, how much time and how much you can afford to take care of them. the larger birds require lots of time and can be expensive to maintain. you have to watch their diets as they require more than just seed or pellets. i have 6 parrots , and spend maybe 500 dollars a month between toys , foods , treats, alot of things.
