if you have never clipped a birds nails do not attempt to do it yourself. birds have what is called a "quick" and if you cut the nail too short the "quick" or the vein inside the nail will be cut and your bird could bleed. it takes very little blood for a bird to die. why don't you find a good avian vet or call your pet store or a breeder who is more experienced. as for the beak, they do not need trimming unless your bird has a genetic defect. i would trim your parakeet's wings so that he/she will not be able to escape from his/her cage and your home. good luck from this budgie lover.

CARFULLY! A little too short, they quirm a bit too much, and BLAM! They bleed, and they can bleed A LOT. (not much room for blood lose there when you only weight a few ounces.) If your going to attempt this, get some clot powder, and prepair for the accident in advance.. it can be scary when your baby is bleeding to death in front of you.

You should never have to clip a parrakeet bill you should have the stone for him a cuddle bone that he uses to file his bill down and his nails only need trimmed when they start turning under alot. you can actually buy the perch covers that keep there feet filed and also the perch itself and then you wont have to do either of these things because you could really hurt them.

Just clip the nails, leave the beak alone. If you feel there is a problem with the beak take it to a pro. Nails get sharp quick and may need trimming as often as every two months. Buy a clipper with a close back stop just for birds to prevent cutting too deep. Don't try to clip more than just the sharp point. Mistakes are made when one trys to cut more, to lenghten the time between cuttings and usually get a blood bath everytime.
