Be sure to have stypitic powder (aluminum nitrate) on hand, do do not feel comfortable with just a styptic pencil with the idea that if a problem occurs you can just smash it. Flour or starch will work as a clotting agent, as well. if aluminum nitrate is used be sure to clean it from the bird as it IS toxic. If bleeding does occur, after getting it stopped keep the bird very still for 15 20 minutes to keep the heart rate low as not to start the bleeding again.

Your bird will flip out the first several times. Between cuttings try playing with your birds feet often to get him used to you touching them. This will make it so much easier in the future.

Be careful with the wings as well. Learn this from a pro before attempting yourself. Flight feathers also have a blood line, cutting one of these will be the worst, they bleed so fast that pow your bird is gone.

I don't think that you would clip its beak. That is why they make the cuttle bone. The birds chip away at it and it keeps their beaks 'trimmed'. Just watch their nails and trim them when they start to interfere with the birds clinging to its perch. Actually, before that. You need to be really careful with the trimming. If you trim too close, you can cause it to bleed. And it will be sore for them, kind of like if you tear a nail down too low. Could you take it to the pet store where you purchased the bird to have them trim the nails, or at least show you how. That way, you have a better chance of doing it properly.

well if you clip its beak, it wont be able to eat. thats like taking out your teeth.

U should clip them when they get really long and sharp.Don't try to do it yourself. you might cut down too low and it will start bleeding alot.Go to a vet so they can do it.
